| We have established ourselves since 1993. The centre
was founded by national athlete, Ms. May Tan. You can view her profile
here. The aim of the training centre is to provide budgetary yet
content-rich wushu/taiji courses to the schools students (primary
and secondary).
We have noticed that most of the students have misconception
about learning wushu in general. Wushu is often thought to be an
"old style" art that is only suitable for the Chinese or
traditional people. This is not true. Coupled with some scientific
theory and the vast experiences of May Tan, wushu can be very good
for slimming, muscles relaxation and other bio-health enhancement.
It can be applied to many unhealthy phenomenon found in most
students nowadays like obese, not attentive, feeling tired easily
etc. Most of these phenomenon actually stamped from the fact that
most of the students are severely lack of exercise. Even if there
are some form of CCAs which they must take part in, they are also
not enthusiastic enough to persist on.
Wushu can also be very interesting when the correct approach is
taken. We have very instructional materials and or self-referencing
materials that can assist the students to understand wushu better.
Most of these materials are archived as digital media and they are
uploaded to our Digital
Media at library.singapore-wushu.com. Just perform a search on
some the keywords like "routines", "taiji" etc
and you will be able to get some information. Beside providing the
necessary information to help students get started and to arouse
their interest, we have also make in-depth study on what contents
should be delivered to them. This can be in-terms of the proper
translation of the vocabulary found in traditional wushu, the
postures most suitable for beginners without and the level of
physical acceptance for their developing bodies.
We have taken a modern approach in devising the courses'
curriculums. The courses are structured in such a manner that they are
level-based learning and at the same time, each course deliver the appropriate
contents at that level. If potential students show their
interests for further wushu learning, we will make the arrangements
for them to enroll into higher level of training course, even into
the national team. Our main objective is to increase sporting
opportunities for the young, especially those previously not
involved in sport. We also hope that the courses we provide can
help in their character-building, improving self-esteem and
nurturing of life skills.
